INVESTMENT approach

FAMILY BUSINESS HERITAGE & EXPERIENCE

We have a deep appreciation for family- and entrepreneur-owned businesses. We are grateful that it is a part of our own heritage, and we are passionate about partnering with these business owners.

We also understand there may come a time when there is a need to diversify wealth, transition ownership of a business and/or bring on a capital partner. Finding that partner who values the people, culture, relationships and the reputation of the company, and who can be trusted to position that company for continued success, is paramount. We care deeply about maintaining and strengthening those competitive advantages afforded to family businesses, such as long-term talent development, long-term performance, trusted relationships, rapid-response strategy implementation, and engaged ownership.

Our team has extensive experience in family business operations, from establishing long-term strategic plans to managing governance transitions, and it is our desire to serve our partners well with these competencies.

FLEXIBLE, SUPPORTIVE CAPITAL BASE

Our long-duration capital base provides the flexibility to deploy financial and other resources needed to grow lower/middle-market companies. This same flexibility applies to our investment horizon, enabling us to make decisions in partnership with management in the best interests of our companies. At our core, we understand the importance of preserving what makes a company special and are sensitive to how we handle ownership transitions. We take our core values seriously and will maintain enduring relationships with our business partners.

  • We have significant flexibility to creatively structure transitions that meet the needs of business owners, especially families and entrepreneurs.

  • We align naturally with management because we maintain a long-term focus on building companies and creating value. To us, this means providing operational latitude with strategic alignment to execute growth plans. We do not run companies, but rather support talented teams with appropriate resources and access.

INSTITUTIONAL QUALITY TEAM, INFRASTRUCTURE & PROCESS

As investors, we mindfully work to be known as trustworthy, forthright and capable.  As such, we employ collaborative teamwork to quickly navigate complex situations and add certainty to our processes. Our investment acumen, breadth/depth of experience, institutional investing processes, and industry relationships are the core assets that we then apply to make sound investment decisions. A final critical component to our approach is ideal alignment with our partners and management teams. We believe that long-term business building is best accomplished with relational and financial alignment.

REAL ESTATE EXPERTISE

We view investing in commercial real estate as a significant value creation and risk mitigation lever if used synergistically with operating company investments. Real estate can be a major financial and operational cost factor for most industrial businesses, and yet it can also improve a company in a multitude of ways.

Applying our expertise and deep relationships in the real estate business enables us to utilize this powerful tool in a way that most firms do not. Our approach to commercial real estate investing is rooted in our commitment to doing what's best for our partners and management teams with a truly holistic perspective.
